CoordKit is built with privacy as a core principle. We believe your geographic data and search queries should stay private and under your control.

What Data We Collect

✓ No User Accounts = No Personal Data Collected

CoordKit does not require registration or login. We do not collect names, email addresses, passwords, or any personally identifiable information.

Client-Side Storage Only

  • Search History: Your location searches and calculations are stored locally in your browser (IndexedDB/localStorage) and never sent to our servers.
  • Preferences: Settings like preferred units (metric/imperial) are stored locally in your browser.
  • User Control: You can clear this data anytime by clearing your browser's local storage.

Third-Party Services

Geocoding & Map Services

  • OpenStreetMap Nominatim: When you search for a location by name, we use OpenStreetMap's free geocoding service. Your search query is sent to their servers to convert location names to coordinates. See OSM's privacy policy.
  • Leaflet Maps: Interactive maps use OpenStreetMap tiles. Your map interactions (zoom, pan) may be logged by OSM for infrastructure purposes.
  • GeoNames API: Used for timezone lookups. Location coordinates (not names) are sent to determine timezone information.

Analytics

We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to understand aggregate usage patterns (page views, popular tools). Ahrefs is a privacy-focused analytics service that does not use cookies or collect personal data. See Ahrefs' privacy policy.

Advertising

We display contextual ads via Google AdSense. AdSense may use cookies to show relevant ads. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google's Ad Settings.

Data Processing

All Calculations Happen in Your Browser

Distance calculations, sunrise/sunset times, coordinate conversions, and other tools run entirely client-side using JavaScript. Your coordinate data never touches our servers.

Your Rights

  • Access: All your data is stored locally in your browser. Use browser DevTools to inspect localStorage and IndexedDB.
  • Deletion: Clear your browser's local storage to delete all CoordKit data.
  • Portability: Your calculation history is stored in standard browser storage formats.

Data Retention

Since all data is stored locally in your browser, there is no server-side retention period. Data persists until you clear your browser storage or uninstall your browser.

Security

CoordKit is served over HTTPS to ensure secure transmission. Since we don't store user data on our servers, there's no centralized database to breach.

Children's Privacy

CoordKit does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. Our service does not require registration and does not collect personal information.

Changes to This Policy
